Iran Dismisses Negotiations with U.S.
The statement was delivered by Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for Iran's principal military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, directly contradicting assertions made by U.S. President Donald Trump that Tehran was engaged in talks and seeking a deal to bring the conflict to a close.
Zolfaghari cast doubt on American power, arguing that if Washington, which "claims to be the world's superpower," had the capacity to extricate itself from its current difficulties, it would have acted already. He pressed the United States to stop dressing up its failures as diplomacy, declaring that "the strategic power the enemies would brag about has turned into a strategic defeat."
The Iranian military spokesman further argued that Washington's internal divisions have left it negotiating with no one but itself, and issued a stark economic warning: the United States will neither secure investment footholds in West Asia nor witness a recovery in energy and oil prices until it accepts that regional stability rests in the hands of Iranian armed forces.
Zolfaghari added that a return to prior conditions hinges entirely on Iran's own volition — and that normalcy will only be possible once Washington permanently abandons any notion of "taking actions against the Iranian nation."
The remarks come in direct response to Trump's Monday claim that U.S.-Iran talks had produced "major points of agreement." On Tuesday night, Israeli media and The New York Times separately reported that Washington had presented Tehran with a 15-point proposal outlining a month-long ceasefire framework. Iran has consistently and repeatedly denied that any such negotiations are underway.
The confrontation between the two nations escalated dramatically on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched coordinated strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior military figures and civilians. In retaliation, Iran unleashed successive waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and American military installations and assets across the Middle East.
