Iranian Drone Strikes Kuwaiti Crude Oil Tanker at Dubai Port

(MENAFN) Kuwait Petroleum Corporation reported on Tuesday that its crude oil tanker, Al Salmi, was struck by an Iranian drone while anchored at Dubai Port in the United Arab Emirates. The incident occurred at 12:10 a.m. local time (2010 GMT Monday).

The tanker, carrying a full load of crude oil, sustained material damage to its hull and caught fire, according to a statement carried by a Kuwait news agency. Authorities warned of a potential oil leak into nearby waters.

Dubai’s Media Office confirmed that all 24 crew members aboard were safe and that emergency teams successfully extinguished the blaze. “Relevant teams continue to assess the situation and take the necessary measures, and updates will be shared as they become available,” the office added.

Following the attack, oil prices rose sharply: New York Mercantile Exchange futures jumped more than 3% to $106.05 a barrel at 2337 GMT, while Brent crude climbed 2.57% to $115.35 a barrel at 2306 GMT.

The incident comes amid ongoing regional escalations following a joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran that began on Feb. 28, reportedly killing over 1,340 people, including the country’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and global market disruptions.
